As you may remember from last time, I talked about how I went to Germany during the best summer ever. Well I'm going to talk about that specific trip in this weeks blog. First, The German's Came here for a month. My German's name was Thilo, he was 6'5", and spoke English perfectly. Their time here was fun, but the time in Germany was even better. When I first arrived, I unpacked and we rode bikes (which is what we did all the time to travel) to their nearby lake, and I accidentally fell asleep in the grass because of jet lag. the next day we went to class, which was interesting because their time intervals were very similar to ours, only they were allowed to eat in class. This went on for a few days until the Friday, when the first game Germany played in the Euro Cup was on. Nearly the entire town met in this giant pavilion to watch the game. I'm not gonna lie, we got hammered. They ended up losing but we still partied later at some other guys house, where I ended up getting sick from drinking too much. That didn't happen again.
After that, we stayed in town for a while longer and then left for a two week side trip. We would go to a small town, stay there for a couple days, but would go to larger cities during the day and return at night. Within the first week, I visited Munich, Berlin, and Buchenwald concentration camp. It wasn't a death camp, and we bombed the crap out of it so there wasn't much left, but the incinerator, the "science" building and the place were they would torture people were still intact. That place was very eerie and made you think. After that, we continued through out the country, visiting towns and castles during the day and getting drunk at night until we returned to our Germans for the final week.
From there we just did whatever we wanted, like my "parents" took me a few other places and took me to a sweet firework show. At night, again, we would go out and drink and watch the soccer games, which they watch more religiously then we do football, and just have an all around good time.
I learned a lot during this trip and it was one of the best times of my life. I hope to do it again or perhaps have my kids do it when they're old enough.
